Overview

The International Youth Federation is an international non-profit youth organizations network governed by the present Statutes and the Swiss Civil Code. It is neutral politically, and non-denominational, aim to empower youth worldwide.

The Press Officer role to be fundamental in raising the profile of all areas of IYF by assisting in the smooth running of all media operations through the production of relevant press materials via the websites and social media. Also to strengthen the communications and media work of IYF by engaging the public on advocacy issues primarily through digital communication tools.

Mission Statement:

To voluntarily represent, positively promote, and uphold the mission of “Empowering youth for better world” in various programs and opportunities throughout the IYF interventions and the community.

Responsibilities:

(A) Communication Support:

  • To assist with general external communications duties including answering media inquiries, writing and editing press releases, preparing articles for the residents’ newsletter and other publications, proofreading and editing publications.
  • To support the delivery of the IYF’s communications plan including creating materials, managing online discussion forums and keeping campaigns up to date.
  • Work proactively and reactively with local and national media to positively promote the image of the IYF.
  • To oversee internal and external communication and media to reach out more effectively to IYF target audiences.
  • To develop media communication, including drafting press briefings, and press releases, their distribution to the target groups and monitor the preparation of press clippings.
  • Devise and produce proactive media campaigns.
  • Arrange for spokespeople to speak to the media
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare regular evaluation reports
  • Advise senior staff members on written responses to the media.
  • Proof-read and if necessary rewrite media statements.

 

(B) Social Media & Web Support:

  • Organize and produce all materials for the IYF websites, such as interviews, latest reports and marketing, including interactive and video content.
  • To update the website and intranet as required with news stories, page changes, and promotional materials. To approve content created by staff or other contributors.
  • Produce content for the IYF social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, vine etc.).

Eligibility:

Highly interest in youth empowerment, youth issues.
Relevant experience in media/press or communication is required.

Skills Required For Position:

  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, members, volunteers and other supporters.
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations quickly, accurately and effectively.

 

Experience:

Experience and results preferred at national level preferred in communication role, development, communications, blogging, youth issues, sport, women empowerment, youth-led organizations or another relevant field.

Language:

Fluency in English with superior drafting skills is essential.
